The base

The skeleton of the sculpture is normally made of epoxy parts creating an anatomically correct base on with I flesh out the character. Since an astronaut body is covered with a thick layer of equipment, there’s no point in wasting resin parts when the body shape are completely covered.

In this case I use wood and wire hanger fore the frame and foil fore the filling.

The Second layer in this case is made of an air-dry paste.  I try to build up the shape until I’m about 2-3 millimeter from the final surface.  This step save a lot money since milliput is not very cheap.

After the paste is dry I don a final placement of the limbs by breaking the paste at the joints and then filling the cracks with wood glue.
